Awards

Currently there are two types of awards from the Society of Nematologists that are given based on applications or nominations submitted in advance of the annual meetings.

Student travel awards are given on a competitive basis to help finance student participation in the society’s annual meetings. The awards are funded by Industry sponsors of the society and by the Cobb Foundation. Beginning in 2024, the SON is granting a registration fee waiver (at the SON student-member rate) to Industry-sponsored travel award winners.
Members of the society with sustained, outstanding achievements in research, classroom teaching, extension education, professional service, and overall accomplishments are recognized annually with the Syngenta Crop Protection Award, the Teaching Excellence Award, and as Fellow of the Society. Recipients of these awards are nominated by other members of the Society.

**New timeline for the 2025 Honorary Member Call for Nominations**

Based on our 2024 membership, we have the ability to add another Honorary Member to our ranks in 2025. As we realign to our new SON Award nomination cycle, the 2025 Call for Honorary Member Nominations will be from November 1st, 2024 through January 31st, 2025. Annual Meeting Student Travel Awards for 2025

Details of the awards, their criteria, and the application process are available online here.
The Call for Applications will begin on February 1st, 2025 with a deadline for application submission on April 1, 2025.

**Nominations for the Syngenta Award, the Teaching Excellence Award, SON Fellow for 2026

These awards will also follow the new nomination timeline with the Call of Applications going out November 31st, 2025 and a deadline of January 31st, 2026. Details of the award criteria and nomination guidelines and process are available online here, when the call is announced.
