Wednesday Morning Nature Tour Options (please choose only one activity beyond the iNaturalist program):

iNaturalist Program (8:15-9am): A free presentation which teaches the history and use of the iNaturalist App to assist in identifying and documenting the flora and fauna found on outdoor adventures. Once students have a basic understanding and hands-on training, they will be equipped for deeper discovery as they engage in self-guided walks or their selected activities in the Gulf State Park.

Guided Beach Walk at the Pier (9-11am):  Meet at bronze sea turtle at the Gulf State Park Fishing Pier to learn all about our coastal ecosystem.  Then, meander along the shore, with our guide, looking for shells and learn about some of the local sea life found in the Gulf of Mexico. $30 per person.

Guided Willet Walk (9-11am): Are you interested in learning about our local shorebirds?  Have you ever wondered what they were called?  Or what they were eating?  Join our park guide at the Gulf State Park Fishing Pier to discover and observe several native shorebirds along Alabama’s Gulf coast.
$30 per person.

Guided Nature Walk on Premier BackcountryTrail (9-11am):  Meet our park guide at the trail head of either the Gulf Oak Ridge or Gopher Tortoise Trail (transportation or bikes needed to get to trail head) and explore the trails in Gulf State Park. The Naturalist Guide will select from one of the two noted hikes based on heightened activity along the trails due to weather for both flora and fauna (ex: Gulf Oak Ridge is shaded with evergreen forests while Gopher Tortoise Trail is sand shrub).  Each offers unique flora and fauna and dependent upon weather leading up to the time of your visit will offer differing experiences. Binoculars recommended for enhanced viewing. $30 per person

Guided Kayaking Tour (9-10 or 9-11am): Launch from Lake Shelby for a one hour guided kayaking tour to explore the basics of kayaking and enjoy a short trip around the Lake Shelby. Based on availability and fees apply.

1 hour = $65 per person

2 hour = $90 per person
